Piranesi / Creffield

A charcoal drawing based on St Mary's Cathedral, in the styles of Piranesi and Dennis Creffield.

I've always liked drawing Architectural subjects, here I'm attempting to combine the styles of Piranesi (1720-1778), with bold lighting and dynamic compositions, and Dennis Creffield (1931-2018), whose instinctive charcoal drawings of

medieval cathedrals are inspirational. This image is loosely based on St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh.

"Alasdair Banks' paintings capture the essence of speed and nobility in an innately modern style."
